circumstances: Circumstances: Shannon Merry at one point was married, with a great job in New York City. But as problems began to arise in her life, including a substance abuse issue, everything began to fall apart. Shannon first tried moving in with her parents, but like many 30-something's, living at home again can be quite difficult, so Shannon moved in with an older woman named Helen who had her do things around the house in exchange for living there. For over a year, it worked great. But problems began to arise due the odd living conditions with the couple and Shannon's own issues. The home had a really strange arrangement. Shannon would sleep with Helen in her bed while Helen's boyfriend slept on the couch. Things got weirder when Helen began promising Shannon to her son who was in prison for violent crimes. When Alycia remarked at how weird it was, Shannon essentially told her she was just talking to Arthur to appease Helen and keep her living situation as stable as she possibly could. But when Arthur got home, the entire dynamic of the living situation changed. Instead of with Helen, Shannon now slept up in a room in the attic with Arthur. But, after a few months, Shannon couldn't take the way the house was anymore and left, telling Alycia she "feared for her life" because she was being accused of stealing from the home. At this point Shannon left and went to live with a friend Tommy for 5 or 6 months and all was well. But eventually Tommy's father took him to live in the city, again leaving Shannon with nowhere to go, and forcing her to return back to Helen's. Alycia begged her not to go and offered Shannon the opportunity to live with her, but Shannon, partly because of her issues, needed to live somewhere where she felt she had freedom and could come and go as she pleased, and knew she wouldn't get that at Alycia's. On Saturday April 30th of 2013, the day before Easter Sunday, Alycia saw Shannon walking down her street, back towards Helen's, a common sight because her neighborhood was commonly used for people to cut through. She spoke to Shannon for about an hour, again offering her the chance to move in with her, but Shannon declined and when the conversation was over, set back off towards Helen's house. This would be the last time Alycia would see or hear from her friend. When she called her on both Monday and Tuesday, Shannon didn't answer, or respond. So Alycia went to Helen's house. Her typical greeting of being welcomed in was changed, and this time the family came outside to speak with her, locking the door behind themselves and asking what she wanted. When she said Shannon, all they would tell her is "She left". Uncomfortable, Alycia left, with a horrible feeling about where her friend might be and she never saw her again. But it would later be revealed that Shannon had indeed made it home that Saturday, as she did call her mom on Eastern Sunday, asking to move back home. Shannon didn't have a cell phone, so made this call FROM Helen's phone. The conversation with her mom didn't go well, so her mother told her she would give her time to cool off and call her back in 2 hours. Shannon didn’t know her mom was calling back. Her mom hung up on her and called back a few hours later hoping Shannon cooled off. When she did call back Helen answered and said Shannon left. When Shannon's mom called back, Shannon never answered. No one knows what happened to Shannon Merry on that Easter Sunday, and what might have transpired from the time she spoke to her mother to when she stopped answering the phone.[ from Reddit]
